did you know?

Marcus Garvey’s Universal Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A) was very woman friendly unlike many other Organizations. The Movement Uplifted Black Women in so many ways because Garvey believed it was crucial for Blacks to get back to African Traditions and Customs. In Africa, Women fought alongside Men and protected their people and land. The Universal African Motor Corps trained Black Women all over the world to fight just like Black Men with the similar goal of protecting the African people. Garvey knew that African Women were strong and could do more than just cook and clean. It was the first all Female military group and it sent a message all over the World. If Black Men and Women fight together, No Weapon formed against us shall prosper. Today you don’t see these types of Programs in Black Organizations.

“How dare anyone tell us that Africa cannot be redeemed, when we have 400,000,000 Men and Women with warm blood coursing through their veins? The powers that hold Africa are not Divine.” Marcus Garvey
